COMMENTARY CORNER

Hello Fellow Technical Analysts & Traders! Welcome to my Commentary.

First and foremost, I would sincerely like to to extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to all graduates of my previous Masterclass courses, conducted over last few years. Your passion, patience and determination has always given me the strength to push myself to the limits of performance and innovation, and to go beyond my own accepted boundaries. For all this and much more, I truly thank all of you.

Trading in a Brave New World

With the speed and power of internet broadband, sourcing for information on trading and technical analysis nowadays is a fairly simple exercise. Just typing in the word 'Trading', brings up pages upon pages, inundated with a host of competing Autotrading (nothing to do with cars !) softwares that are ready to rock & roll, right out of the box! Could this be the trend whereby humans will eventually be removed from the trading equation altogether ? It is not too difficult to imagine, that at some not too distant point in the future, each human being could be assigned, from birth, a personal 'tradebot' which will take care of all 'finances' for the rest of his or her natural life ! That would indeed be paradise. We could then turn our whole-hearted attention to our real passions in life, be it painting, singing, reading, and yes, even trading ! But then trading would be a passion, a thing of true beauty and joy, and not the painful drudgery that most traders experience today.

Of course, with a little hard work, patience and sincere dedication, trading can be a beautiful experience, though it may be very difficult for most to believe ! For most, the experience of trading can be simply summed up as severe involuntary gastrointestinal spasms, the severity of which is mysteriously inversely proportional to the distance between price and the stop loss, squared.

But for a lucky few, trading is truly glorious, fulfilling and nourishing. Not only does it nourish the soul, but it also nourishes the wallet in magnificient fashion. How do they do it ? What is their secret ? Should we be holding our charts upside down instead ?

From the beginning of time, man has always been drawn to the idea of being able to see the future. Can we really predict the future with absolute certainty ? Well, yes and no. It depends on having the required information and the ability to compute that information fast enough. If you see a shoe floating down a river, you can pretty much 'predict' that it will be going in the direction of the current. But can we predict the outcome from the roll of a fair pair of dice ? Well, you could if you are able to measure all the trajectories and impact data, all the way down to atomic level, and have the computing power to decipher the information fast enough. Since we are unable to do that presently, the outcome will be unknown to us. Hence we cannot predict the outcome with any real certainty. The less capable we are, the more we have to live in a world of probabilities.

But seriously, this leaves us with only two choices. We could try to make a bet on the outcome by studying the natural forces that acts on the system, or, try to make a bet based on probability itself. (Incidentally, this is a Masterclass topic which we will resolve, once and for all, in class!)

Anyway, I hope this little informal blog (euphemistically called the Commentary Corner !) has provoked some serious neuronal activity, and hopefully in the process, conjure up a the right mix of neurochemicals that may well lead to the ability to bend the fabric of space and see around the corner of time itself. That would be a very good thing indeed.

In the mean time, I found this rather nice diagram depicting the joy and pain of the Emotional Rollercoaster that most traders and investors experience !

Study it closely. Did you notice yourself experiencing any of those emotions at any point along the ride ? Be honest ! After all, what is life without a little excitement !

THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY COMMENTARY CORNER, AND I HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOURSELF WHILE BEING HERE.  UNTIL NEXT TIME,  HAPPY TRADING !

MY HIGHEST REGARDS,

MARK.
